Two awesome new Tier V tanks are coming to War Thunder! This is the story of the competition between two companies - Chrysler and General Motors - to create a new main battle tank for the US military, soon to be known around the world as the M1 Abrams.
Xm 1 Tank
Both tanks are very similar to War Thunder. The XM-1 is a premium V-class tank with composite armor and side skirts. Although its armor is inferior to that of the M1 Abrams, it provides decent protection against any type of ammunition at higher ranges.

It started at the beginning of the seventies, in the middle of the Cold War and the arms race. After the joint German-American project to create the MBT-70 main battle tank was closed and the new all-American XM803 project was an insufficient and very expensive response to the latest Soviet developments, the US Department of Defense developed a new list Requirements for the future American main battle tank. Two engineering giants joined the competition: Chrysler and General Motors. Both competitors decided to use the development of the MBT-70 and XM803 to create a new tank. Many corrections and additions were made to the tactical and technical requirements of the American government, mainly regarding the defensive characteristics of the future main battle tank. The demands on the tank's armor and survivability have increased, as well as sustaining it in the field. Also, the Arab-Israeli conflict showed that a modern tank must be able to effectively destroy armor at long ranges, even with kinetic projectiles, and also have a sufficiently large complement of projectiles. Despite the changes and additions to the technical characteristics, the competitors managed to achieve their goals, and in 1976 they presented their development, experimental prototypes of the XM-1 tank. The two cars were very similar in appearance, with virtually identical dimensions. They were identical in layout and used the same 105mm M68 gun. Both tanks performed very well. Which prototype was chosen by the military and why?
The XM-1 (GM), a General Motors competition model, was a further development of ideas and technological solutions for the MBT-70 and XM803 projects, including a mixed diesel engine and chassis with six wheels per side, three hydraulic suspension and with three torsion bar suspension. General Motors' rival, the Chrysler Company, used its XM-1 (C) model to introduce not only a progressive gas turbine engine, but a new chassis with seven independent roller wheels on each side with rod suspensions of individual torsion. In addition, Chrysler engineers were able to save money in the construction of the tank by optimizing the components of the guidance equipment and the weapon stabilization system. These details played a crucial role in selecting a contractor to make the XM-1 project a reality. Despite the many hiccups and "teething problems" of the project, the prototype of the next-generation main battle tank of the United States has been confirmed. After several cycles of troubleshooting and modernizing the XM-1 (C) prototype, the deployment of the first vehicles under the name M1 Abrams began.
The main armament of the tank consists of a 105 mm M68 gun, already known to our players from the best tanks M60 RISE and M1 Abrams. XM-1 tanks carry 55 rounds and have a decent range of shells to choose from: Fin Stabilized Armor Penetrating Sabot (APFS-DS), HESH rounds, HEAT-FS and smoke rounds.
The 1,500 hp engines - diesel engine in XM-1 (GM) and gas turbine XM-1 (C) - allow the tank to reach 75 km/h. The tank accelerates very quickly and is a pleasure to drive. The XM-1 (GM) version differs in slightly higher top speed and hydraulic suspension, which gives the tank new capabilities in some combat situations.
World Of Tanks Console
In general, the XM-1 is a great high-end tank in the US tech tree, and its premium status significantly increases research on any armor between tiers I and VI in the US tech tree, and brings great bonuses to Silver. lions

The XM-1 (GM) feels like the M1 Abrams, a prototype of that very vehicle. However, its specs favor anything but the M1 Abrams style of play. You want to play XM-1 (GM) like Leopard or Ru 251. Use your speed, mobility and weapons to hit the weak points of the armor of enemy tanks.

One thing to note about the XM-1 (GM) is its extremely loud tracks, in some cases louder than the engine. This can be annoying, to say the least.
If you don't have all the skins unlocked, it will be OD green or a sandy yellow/brown color on the desert maps. Other distinguishing features of the vehicle include a combined Gunner/Commander view, as well as a sloping hull very reminiscent of the game's Leopards. The vehicle also uses hydropneumatic suspension and includes night vision for the commander and driver; and thermal targets for the shooter.
This vehicle is best used as a support tank, not a "fight". The flank is where this tank succeeds, using its speed and maneuverability to reach the enemy's rear or flanks. Another good tactic is to shoot and crouch to maximize maneuverability and weaponry on the opponent. This tank can also be used to devastating effect in urban combat. In urban combat, it is advised that you never go it alone, stay close to or behind friendly tanks and do not rush forward. If you play an ambush and defensive fighting style, at least in the early game, you will likely be able to get a lot of kills/assists and have to stop the enemy's push. If your team is winning and the enemy is outnumbered, it may be possible to move quickly but carefully to flank and capture enemies, hopefully leading to victory for your team.
A note on XM-1 (GM) survivability: The XM-1 has relatively weak armor, but is surprisingly survivable. One-shot kills are rare when playing the XM-1. It usually takes two or more shots to take it out, thanks to the turret's spacious interior and explosive ammo racks. Sometimes it takes up to 10 poorly aimed or unlucky shots to take out the XM-1, especially on long range hits.
